Thumbnail Images and Business Web Design

What are thumbnails? Thumbnails are just smaller photos of your items. Thumbnails are used to sample a product to the viewer without the user having to download the larger display image. As a designer, or webmaster, you can display sample images on one page and give the user the option to click a link for a full size view of the item, enabling many more items to be seen on one page.

There are a couple of photo editors online that can be used to create thumbnails of your images. These can also be very helpful when using internet auction sites. When you have a web site hosted with a hosting company, you will need to pay for the bandwidth that you use. Loading thumbnails can greatly decrease the amount of bandwidth your site uses, therefore lowering your hosting costs.

One of the best utilities I have found for working with thumbnails in your graphic files, is PSP Thumbnail Handler. This program allows you to view .psp images as thumbnails while looking through your files.

In conclusion, thumbnails are a good idea because it gives the user control over the image files they choose to download to the web browser.
